Yeast VaginitisYeast vaginitis is quite a common problem; about three quarters of the entire female population of the world will suffer from yeast vaginal infections to some or the other extent at some point in their lifetime, regardless of what region of the world they stay in. The infection is caused by a strain of yeast (a fungus) known as the Candida albicans, which is naturally present in the vaginal tract of women. However, when the concentration of this yeast increases, several physical symptoms make their appearance, which include an uncomfortable (not to mention, embarrassing) itching in the vaginal area. This condition is known as yeast vaginitis or sometimes thrush. The biological name for the condition is candidiasis. Though it seems that candidiasis is a predominantly female problem, it is not so. Men can get this condition from their girlfriends. Yeast infections can also pass on to the mammary glands of women causing a condition known as mastitis. If the woman is lactating, there's a strong possibility that this infection will be carried on to the mouth of the suckling infant and cause an oral yeast infection in them. However, though the problem is quite a rampant one, it is also true that it is not medically very serious. It is not a chronic ailment, though there might be cases of recurring yeast vaginitis if the woman is not careful and does not use the right kind of remedy. There are both antibiotic and home remedies available curing yeast vaginitis and, if used correctly, all of them work quite effectively. In that way, the problem can be likened to acne, a condition that is exceedingly common but does not cause any serious medical repercussions in the sufferer. The best method of countering yeast vaginitis is by introducing the bacterium Lactobacillus acidophilus in the body of the person. These bacteria are helpful bacteria that are otherwise found in the digestive tract of humans. Among other things, the bacteria keep the concentration of the yeasts in check. So, when the person has developed vaginitis, it means that they are deficient in acidophilus. Acidophilus can be introduced in the body through fermented dairy products such as buttermilk and yogurt. These are the most common natural remedies for the ailment. If the person consumes two glasses of buttermilk a day, vaginitis will be cured completely and quite fast. Yogurt can be eaten or even used topically over the infected area. There are various other natural remedies that are used for yeast vaginitis. People vouch for the beneficial effects of grapefruit and cranberry juice. Other remedies include douching the area with an apple cider vinegar or baking soda solution. Women who suffer from yeast vaginitis must keep their diet in check. They must not consume any foods that are difficult to digest because this will aggravate their condition. Additionally, they must consume a lot of salads and other fibrous foods which can help them keep their digestive system well-channelized. This is an important point in the treatment of the problem. Thus it can be seen that yeast vaginitis can be quite easily controlled by some simple home remedies. It is not advised to go for antibiotics if you can do without them because these chemical drugs can kill the useful organisms present within the body along with the villainous yeast. |
